What happens next when your loved one is in our care?

When someone you love passes away, it can be difficult to know where to begin. At Lonergan & Raven, we are here to support you through each step of the process with compassion, care, and guidance. Below is a helpful list of considerations to assist you as you prepare to meet with your funeral director.

    • Allow Time to Meet
Set aside 1–2 hours for your initial meeting with the funeral director to begin discussing the funeral arrangements.

    • Bring Support
Consider bringing a trusted friend or family member to support you during this time.

    • Documentation
Bring any documents you have, including details required for the Death Certificate.

    • Clothing for Your Loved One
If you wish, bring clothing for the deceased to be dressed in, along with any perfume, makeup, or aftershave. A recent photo can also help with presentation.

    • Payment Details
Credit or EFTPOS card details may be required at this stage.

    • Prepaid Funeral Plans
If your loved one has a prepaid funeral plan, please bring any related documents with you.

    • Burial Plot Information
If a burial site has been reserved, bring along the reservation details.

    • Prepare Questions
Writing down any questions you may have beforehand can be helpful during the meeting.

    • Viewing
You may wish to arrange a viewing—a private opportunity to spend time with your loved one before the service, often held the day prior.

    • Service Details
During the first meeting, we will usually confirm the date, time, and location of the funeral service.

    • Ceremony Preferences
Begin thinking about the elements you’d like to include: music, flowers, catering, video tributes, or a specific theme.

    • Cremation or Burial
Consider whether you would prefer a cremation or burial for your loved one.

    • Costs & Account
Our team will explain all associated costs and provide a clear breakdown of the funeral account.
