  • There are 3 main differences between a coffin and a casket.

    • A coffin has 6 sides while a casket has 4.

    • A coffin is wider at the shoulders and tapers to the feet while a casket is a standard rectangle.

    • Finally the lid of a coffin comes off completely, whereas a casket almost always has a hinged lid.

    With that being said you can get a coffin with a hinged lid and a casket with a removable lid it all depends on the manufacturer and coffin/casket choice.
